We're still here! – Like Gangsta' Phoenix!

Episode 10!

Episode 10 online!

You'll have to put yourself into a pre-"I'm still here" release date mindset because we talk a lot about Crazy ol' Joaquin Phoenix. It's recently been announced by Casey Afleck that the whole thing was a hoax. Pretty long hoax... but we'll get into that in episode 11! :P

PEACE.

Sorry JvH Fans!

Sorry everyone! Our lives have been complete pandemonium over the last two weeks. Manny and I haven't given up. We'll be back on the horse later this week!

Is this what you've become, Microsoft?

Maybe they should focus on delivering a solid, quality product rather than token gestures such as this. Have you not had enough egg on your face as it is?

While you're wasting time, Apple is shipping millions of new iPhones around the world. Is one of the largest tech companies in the world actually taking time out of it's day for some idiotic display of arrogance? Perhaps you're hungry for another serving of crow?

The stillborn deaths of the Zune, Slate/Courier/Win7 Tablet, and Vista must serve as some reminder to Microsoft, right? Apparently you've learned nothing.

Apple has quietly stopped the Get a Mac campaign… perhaps they're taking a page from the Art of War: "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake".

Addendum: Why I Prefer PS3

Yeah… okay. I'm pushing it. Add this to my reasons why I'm pro-PS3:

Gamer Punished For Living In A Town Named Gay

Microsoft suspended a gamer from Xbox Live for listing "Fort Gay" as his location. But that's a real town, and the whole episode makes Microsoft look pretty bad.

A 26-year-old unemployed gamer identified by the AP only as "Moore" listed his location in his Xbox Live profile as "fort gay WV" — a real place with some 800 residents. But Xbox Live claimed he had violated their code of conduct, and suspended him for several days. Deprived of his gaming skills, his team lost "a key Search and Destroy competition!" Xbox Live remained hard-hearted, threatening to cancel his account and hold on to his membership fee, "which he'd paid in advance for two years." The mayor of Fort Gay even got involved, but Xbox told him "the city's name didn't matter. The word 'gay,' he was told, was inappropriate in any context."

Somebody at Microsoft finally decided to look at a map, and Xbox Live has reversed its decision. Director of policy and enforcement Stephen Toulouse says Xbox will apologize to Moore, and admits that "in this very, very specific case, a mistake was made." But this isn't the first time Xbox has screwed up in recent months — back in August, a female gamer contacted their tech support team, only to be given advice directed at her nonexistent son. Xbox clearly needs to learn that some of its users are female — and why does it assume that anyone using the word "gay" must be trying to offend? Moore's situation aside, would Xbox make a distinction between a clearly offensive handle like "ihategays" and one like, say, "gaypride?" Couldn't their code of conduct allow room not just for people from Fort Gay but also for gay gamers who want to refer to their orientation in a positive way? The folks at Xbox Live definitely need an atlas — maybe they need an attitude adjustment as well.

The Main Reason Why I Prefer PS3

Now, I generally stay away from platform debates—it really is just a circular argument that never amounts to anything. For all intents and purposes they are generally the same, despite hardware/software differences. For every deficiency, there is a counter.

That said: One thing that has kept me away from the Xbox 360 is the idea of paying for on-line services. I already pay for it: It's called the internet. I used to own an Xbox 360 several years ago, but I never fully utilized it; I kept it offline because a) It didn't have wireless capabilities; and b) I refuse to pay a premium for on-line play.

Today, my choice in platform has been further cemented.

Episode 7 – Comic Book Movies we HATE, The Avengers, Pop-Movie Plotlines and our first CONTEST! :)

Episode 7 is here!

Jedi vs. Hobbits is a weekly podcast that gazes curiously at the lint-laden navel that is Pop-Culture. Hosted by your friends-to-the-end Manny & Andrew!

JvH Episode 7: We talked about comic movies that we hate, dig a little deeper regarding past discussions about the Avengers, fans across the world, and plots developments in pop-movies that don’t make sense. And a contest!

– Drewski! :)

PS. It's a good one! :P

JvH Logo Contest!

We're holding our very first contest and we're looking for a few creative individuals.

Jedi vs. Hobbits is in need of a logo, and frankly, we're just too busy (or lazy). Lucky you, though, as we're giving away winner's choice of either a Blu-Ray HD combo pack of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz; or an iTunes gift card valued at $20.

All entries should be either JPG (1280x800 pixels) or EPS (vector) sent to: feedback@jedivshobbits.com, subject: Contest

So get your thinking cap on, and put pencil to paper! We have a "soft" closing date of September 22nd (depending on the number of entries).

Please note: We will not accept entries that use copyright characters, photos, or artwork that is not owned/created/originated by or from contestants. By entering the contest, all participants permit JvH to use and display entries as they wish for the purposes of promoting the contest. Once a logo is chosen, the winner agrees to transfer all ownership to JvH in exchange for the prize of their choosing: either (1) copy of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz on Blu-Ray; or one (1) $20 iTunes gift certificate. Shipping and handling of the prize will be covered by JvH and shipped within two (2) weeks of announcing the winner. JvH reserves the right to amend the contest deadline as they see fit without notice.

Episode 7

We're at it again!

After a three week break from recording I thought that Manny and I would have some trouble getting back in the saddle. But Episode 7 recorded like clockwork. JvH fans are in for a treat! Even after the show ended we talked about comics and movies for another 40 minutes!

You can clearly see why we're doing what we're doing when we have that kind of energy when we're recording. :)

Rock ON!

Manny's Got A Crazy Idea

We're suffering from an "image" problem (so to speak)… and I have a bee in my bonnet to rectify it. Jedi vs. Hobbits needs a logo—stay tuned for Episode 7 to hear more details.

Did You Know…?

Here at JvH we try to make sure our listeners are "all up-on" the conversation by providing snapshots and links that pertain to the discussion. If you haven't noticed, check out your screen while you're listen and you'll see what we're talking about.*

Episode 6

Oh Sheesh, Ya'll! :)

It's online! Thanks for listening! We'll be trying to get back on track but don't get your knickers in a twist if we miss a week. Manny and I are busy people. LOL

Episode 5 & A little more episode 4! :)

Episode 5 is online! :)

We've also got a special outtake for our JvH listeners. When opening Episode 4 Manny called me 'The Jacob to his Edward', which sent me on a ride down the Twilight rabbit hole. We cut it out because it was a little too intense for the beginning of an episode. However, in true JvH fashion, we can't hold back our opinions. So I'll be placing a special Episode 4 - OUTTAKE online this morning! :)

Classy Operation

Some people wanted to know what equipment we use. So I thought I'd snap a picture while recording.

That's an iMac 24". I've owned it for a while. Because I'm a freelance graphic artist it's a must. But for the podcast that's a second hand GuitarHero Mic ($13), SONY MDR-V150 headphones ($20), and a homemade mic stand made from a coat-hanger. :)

Classy operation for sure.
